Name: Nii Yugito
Status: Transferring junior, dance major, sexeh AU!Jinchuuriki chicka
Age: 17
Character's past: Yugito was originally brought up in a wealthy family and enjoyed many the luxuries of life. Her father headed a well-known office supplying company and became much of a deadbeat dad, consuming himself in his occupation and hardly spending time with his wife and daughter with excuses that he was working to provide for the family when in reality they were more than financially stable. Making up for the time her husband spent away from them, her mother stayed at home and took care of Yugito, and the two of them grew so close they were nearly inseparable. Whenever circumstances allowed, she took her young daughter along with her wherever she went, and in turn Yugito became a bit of a mama's girl. She wanted her mom to be everywhere with her, whether that be taking her to school and back, watching her play with her friends, or helping her with homework. Despite her father's absence from her life, Yugito didn't resent him because her mother's love more than made up for what role as her father he should've played in her growing up. To her he was a ghostly figure, someone she knew existed but paid little attention to care about.
Such apathy for her father soon escalated into hatred once his company was wrecked by scandal and went bankrupt and he lost his job the year she turned seven. Almost immediately the lavish lifestyle they--especially he--grew so accustomed to faded away, and their family name was looked upon with scorn and garnered a bad reputation. The Nii family was forced to sell all their assets, often at prices and through deals that spelled more loss than revenue, and moved into an apartment in the outskirts of the city. While they tried making due with the situation they were in--Yugito worked harder to earn high marks to spare her once affluent family any more shame on her behalf while her mother and father took whatever dead-end jobs they were offered to make ends meet--the family dynamics quickly changed. Yugito hardly saw either of her parents anymore and herself spent increasingly less time at home to avoid the anger, tension, and desolation that brewed. She tried to maintain her formally cheerful, caring personality, but she inadvertedly became more reclusive and sensitive, and though some of her friends tried to carry on as if nothing had ever happened despite their parents' strongly antagonistic sentiments towards the Nii family, most of them were frightened by this new Yugito and grew apart from her. When she was home, usually only for the necessities such as food and sleep, she often overheard her parents arguing in the late night hours, oddities clattering to the ground or being thrown against walls, and her mother screaming and failing to stifle her sobs. Yugito was always too afraid to go out and see for herself what was going on, but the purple bruises and red scars told her the whole story. Yet when Yugito and her mother managed to catch each other in the same room, her mother showed her a forced mockery of the smile that used to make her daughter so happy and hid her true sorrow behind her vacant, glassy eyes.
This continued until Yugito was about ten, when the Nii family still remained in the same abysmal financial state after three brutal, fruitless years of work. Her father was tired and aggravated that they--read: he--were going nowhere in life and their luck seemed to show they never would. His anger culminated one evening and he finally killed his wife, on whom he took out all his fury and frustration and abused for so long. Taking a wary trip to the bathroom, Yugito stumbled upon the horrific incident, seeing the mother she loved so much stabbed and ripped apart and the father she came to hate with a fierce, frightful passion slathered in blood and holding a kitchen knife leaned over her corpse. He shot her a murderous look, and with that Yugito ran as fast as her legs could take her and never returned.
For a few months--she hardly remembers how long anymore--Yugito lived out on the streets, barely scraping by and stealing whatever necessities she needed from street side vendors. During her time as a homeless child, she stopped attending school and her health rapidly declined, rendering her delirious and unable to perceive what she saw properly. She became paranoid, interpreting just about anything and anyone that rubbed her the wrong way as a threat and lashing out at them violently. In one of her raging fits she tackled a passerby who "gave her a weird look" with a violent strength no ten-year old should even come close to exhibiting. Someone called 911 and the two were rushed to the hospital. The man she attacked was admitted in near critical condition; apparently she struck many of his vital organs. The young girl was treated for dangerously high fever, dehydration, and malnutrition, and after hearing accounts of the attack from other passers-by and observing her violent behavior as doctors and nurses tried to restrain and treat her, it was decided she needed mental counseling. It was found that her paternal side showed evidence of mental illness and perhaps, considering what happened with her father, it was directly passed down to the girl. Yugito was then diagnosed with dissociative personality disorder and, after finding a foster care system that would take her in, put through intense therapy. Within two years she returned to a generally functional state and remained with her very caring foster parents.
It was the year Yugito turned seventeen that her father made it on the news. Since murdering his wife, he went on the run and became a wanted criminal until he was arrested seven years after the killing. When the teenaged girl saw this, anger towards her bastard of a father flooded her being and Nibi, or so her other personality called herself, lashed out for the first time to the same degree since Yugito attacked the man on the street. Luckily no one was hurt this time around, but her foster parents called up her counselors and had her checked up on again. They were dismayed that previous therapy seemed to have failed the girl, and upon hearing about a certain school of the arts they and her foster parents decided to try the art therapy approach. It was decided Yugito would attend Oshima High while meeting periodically with psychological counselors during her stay to keep Nibi in check.
Throughout her life, one thing remained a constant: Yugito's love of dance. Her mother introduced her to dance one day when a traveling dance troupe performed in their area, back when Yugito was rather young and the Nii family still lived in wealth. Mesmerized by the coordination, poise, and beauty the dancers demonstrated, the girl immediately fell in love with the art and begged her mother to enroll her with a dance studio, with which Mommy more than happily complied. When her father's business went bankrupt and disintegrated, they could no longer afford her dance lessons. However, during their hard times Yugito maintained this passion by visiting a small dance studio and watched the dancers from a back window, imitating their movements and informally fostering her talent. When she moved in with her foster parents she didn't ask them to get her lessons. Being the tweenage girl suddenly thrust into their lives, Yugito hesitated to ask things of them because she thought she would be a nuisance. They probably didn't, even though the looming threat of the girl's mental disorder was always something that worried them, but her taking on the role of the obedient, complacent child at home never gave them reason to even consider it.
For a short while she joined the school cheerleading squad but was quickly disgusted with its catty social politics and left the team, to their disappointment. The school didn't have a dance team, nor were there any dance studios close by, so she was left to her own devices and practiced to the point of mastery what styles and moves she already knew and may have picked up along the way. The proposition for her to relocate to Oshima Island and attend school there was a godsend to Yugito. She agreed to it in a heartbeat and transferred to the high school her junior year, provided she take a part-time job during her stay and kept her psychological appointments, measures to be taken to further help her normalize and deal with her disorder. When she lost her parents and was thrown into this new life, dance was what sustained her and maintained her sanity, keeping Nibi at bay.
Experiencing all she has, Yugito developed into a very serious, straightforward young woman. She does and in turn expects things to be done as quickly and efficiently as possible, and she has few qualms telling you how she feels while carrying herself in a poised, dignified--or maybe others read this as conceited--manner. She's no fan of pointless chitchat and bs and wants people to tell things to her as it is. Perhaps she comes off as cold and calculating, but for good or ill, Yugito firmly believes in first impressions, and it takes a lot of work for her to see past them. Her experiences have forced her to see things in a starkly realistic light and hold little patience for what she perceives to be idiocy and blind, naive dreaming, even if she has her own aspirations to become an accomplished dancer and refuses to admit to her hypocrisy. With the memories of her biological father's cruelty still haunting her, Yugito became somewhat suspicious of men, particularly any who show interest in her. For the most part she sees romantic relationships as suppressing one's personality and independence, and in its most severe degree culminating in what happened between her own parents. To some she may appear distrusting, and maybe to some degree she is, but she's steadfast to her beliefs and convictions and constantly strives to live a relatively normal, Nibi-free life.
